Feedback From Commission:

Type: Painting Commission

Location: New York, USA

“I recently purchased a beautiful piece of art from Laura Elliott. Not only was the piece exactly what I wanted, but Laura handled the whole transaction very flawlessly. I was looking around for something colourful and luckily stumbled upon this website. I saw something I loved but when inquired about purchasing it, Laura told me it was already sold. That certainly didn’t stop the search and Laura quickly responded saying she could paint one like that if I was interested and I could even choose the colours.

The next few interactions with Laura involved choosing colours and getting a proof of the painting before I had to commit. Paying was very simple through Pay Pal and we managed to come to a financial arrangement that fitted my budget. The painting was couriered as soon as my payment had gone through and it arrived within a few days. The whole transaction was dealt with very professionally and was very simple. Laura is an enthusiastic and energetic artist who has a passion for what she does. I could feel this through the friendly and personal e-mails we exchanged while she was painting my special piece.

Thank you Laura.”

About the painting I entered:

With the sun setting ahead, this painting explores the view from a walker within the woods as he or she walks up a hill. Concepts of: emotion, memory and location are incorporated through the uplifting use of colour, with a combination of painting techniques. Additionally, direction and movement feature strongly within my work, using my brush strokes to direct the viewer’s eye within my work.

• How-To: Polish & Remove Tarnish

How-To: Polish & Remove Tarnish

1) Remove chain and bail

2) Remove gemstones and delicate parts within the design

3) Remove Tarnish:

Here are 3 of my products I use, some tips on their uses and a few tricks I have learnt for cleaning tarnished silver and other metals:

A) Renaissance Micro-crystalline Wax

Renaissance Micro-crystalline Wax

The Renaissance Micro-crystalline Wax is a high quality polish and tarnish preventer used by the British royal family. I highly recommend this product.

B) Pickline Granules:

Picklean is made primarily for removing firescale from fired metal clay. Saying that, I fine it useful for hard to remove tarnish.

About Picklean:

Picklean is a revolutionary new safety pickle made from 100% non-toxic, food grade materials. This safety pickle really is SAFE, you can even place your hand in the warm mixed solution and you will not feel any acidic burn normally associated with standard safety pickles.

How to use:

To use, mix 1 tablespoon of Picklean granules with 200ml of warm/hot water. Place the copper, bronze or silver piece into the solution immediately after quenching and leave in the solution for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes remove the piece from the solution and brush with a brass or stainless steel brush.

C) The Home-made Aluminium Foil Method:

The Aluminium Foil Silver Cleaning Trick

The Aluminium Foil Silver Cleaning Trick

Tarnished silver is no match for this aluminum foil “recipe”:

  1. Place hot water in a bowl, one liter of water
  2. Add one tablespoon of baking soda
  3. Crumple up the foil and add to water and baking soda mix
  4. Drop silverware in the pot for 10 seconds (longer if it’s very tarnished), then remove using kitchen tongs.

Magic!!

If built-up tarnish persists:

  1. Make a thick paste with 1/4 cup baking soda and two tablespoons of water
  2. Apply with a damp sponge
  3. Gentyly rub onto silver
  4. Rinse and dry

It is as easy as that with items we often already have in your kitchen.

Laura Elliott Artist Interview ~ The Palette Pages

http://www.thepalettepages.com/2016/03/28/lauraelliott/

The Palette Pages interview has a personal introduction by Lisa Gray:

“We are delighted to introduce the artwork of Laura Elliott.  We were first introduced to Laura’s work online and quickly became a follower of her unique style.  When Laura applied to exhibit her work at FLUX Exhibition we were instantly taken with her art and were eager to show her distinctive creations.  Laura is an artist that works with both paint and metal clay.  It was her metal clay work that really grabbed our attention.   Laura is an artist who has harvested her creativity from a very young age.  After studying and finding her form Laura now works with metal clay and precious and semi-precious gemstones.  Her work is intricate and beautiful displaying rawness and luxury, a combination that adds to the beauty of her work.

Laura has gallery representation and takes part in numerous exhibitions within the UK and internationally.  One thing we are sure of is the journey Laura is taking is an exciting one, she is an artist with passion and drive, she is an artist that is not afraid to take on new challenges.

Laura we love your work, we love the concept that we could wear a unique, stunning and impactful piece as jewellery – it’s as personal as it can get with contemporary art. Just marvelous – thank you for sharing your thoughts and inspirations with us.”

• All About Metal Clay – An Introduction

What is metal clay?

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Metal clay is an exciting art medium consisting of very small particles of metal such as silver, gold, bronze or copper which is mixed with an organic binder and water for use in making jewelry, beads and small sculptures. Originating in Japan in 1990, metal clay can be shaped just like any soft clay, by hand or using molds. After drying, the clay can be fired in a variety of ways such as in a kiln, with a handheld gas torch, or on a gas stove, depending on the type of clay and the metal within it. The binder burns away, leaving a pure sintered or solid piece of metal.

The piece below is pre-firing Prometheus copper metal clay:

The following image shows post-fired Prometheus copper metal clay which has sintered into solid copper. A sheet of solid copper in the middle as a comparison:

What work do you create from that medium?

Due to my life-long passion of clay and sculpture, I expanded my work in 2012 to use the exciting medium of silver, copper and bronze metal clay, in concert with my ‘Landscape Moods’ series of paintings. Metal clay allows me to sculpt work in a free form and expressive manner, allowing me to create a wide range of sculptural metal jewellery and this has been titled the ‘Landscape Gems’ series.

Above: ‘A Stitch in Time, Saves Nine’

My metal clay work has enabled me to indulge my love of sparkle and genuine precious and semi-precious gemstones in both faceted and bead form. I personally source all the gemstones I use, which include: Diamonds sourced via the ‘Kimberley Process’ (faceted and rough), Ruby, Garnet, Emerald (Brazilian and Colombian) and my personal favorite gemstone which is Paraiba Tourmaline (from Mozambique).

I have called this series of jewellery the ‘Landscape Gems ‘ series which is sculptural and organic which are designed with a range of media, including: high quality 100% genuine gemstones, gemstone granules, gleams, mica powder, solid silver, enamel and recycled elements such as vintage watch parts. I additionally incorporate media such as metal sheets, gemstone settings, wire, beading thread, metal findings, charms and polymer clay. Each of these mediums provides me the opportunity to further develop and enhance the beauty in each piece of jewellery in this series. By combining all these elements it, therefore, enhances the unique fingerprint of Mother Nature found within all genuine gemstones featured.

My artwork and jewellery both explore colour and form and I feel that one informs the other. Metal clay is such an exciting progression and this medium allows me to further explore my distinct signature painting style within a three-dimensional framework.
